Martina RipponCaveat: I write for myself and have no auoairtzhtion to speak for our group. The beauty of Occupy Madison is that we have had dialogue, not confrontations with the local police. It’s been a win-win operation, even with the Executive Director at Monona Terrace, where we stayed for just one night. Captain Carl Gloede (?) has been very helpful trying to make us as comfortable as possible at the new site, even to the point of assisting us to get electric power. With this as our base camp, actually a small village, we have a place to store our stuff and return to for rest and consultation. Our General Assemblies are at 5:30 daily. Then we can develop small groups for focused direct actions on an ongoing basis, not just marches that we participate in for a couple of hours, and then go home to the same old stuff.Also we have better visibility than ever before, because we are out there with our signage in the view heavy traffic, especially at rush hours. We are reaching huge numbers, not just pedestrian passers-by. We get a lot of approving horn toots, and always wave back.As before, Madison shows the way, defining the essence of peaceful protest. Why provoke the guns will that get our message across?

You can be assured that it is not his day today, and would rather be at home with his feet up. Thus it wont take much to upset a copper today.Ensure there are witnesses to your arrest. It maybe useful later.Those with cameras, be where the confrontations may be, police brutality pics are good evidence, a propaganda tool, and show the state is not interested in listening.Drink plenty of water, crowds get hot, and heat stroke is not your friend.DONT LEAVE YOUR RUBBISH LYING ABOUT>>>>CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF> the last thing we want, is to be labelled pigs.HAVE FUN, GET THE POINT ACROSS.
The most important thing is for the movenemt to remain STRICTLY and ABSOLUTELY NON-VIOLENT. The police will try (as they do) to provoke a riot. They want a riot. They want violence. They can deal with violence. It’s their official language.They CANNOT deal with mass non-violent protesters.Expect provocation.Be willing to have your person arrested.Be prepared to have your person beaten.Be 100% absolutely NON-VIOLENT and they will eventually be completely disarmed.As Gandhi said to his friends of the practice of strict non-violent direct action Unless you people get your skulls cracked, I’m not even going to come to your funeral
